Cabin Baggage Restrictions
  • Cosmetics, perfume, red ginseng extract, beverage, toothpaste, hair wax (gel), shampoo, mascara, lipstick, spray, fountain pen, water soluble pen, etc.
  • While the threat of international terrorism using liquid bombs is increasing, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) advises passengers travelling on all international airlines (including direct and stopover) departing from airports in Korea not to carry liquid and gel products into the cabin as there is no inspection device inside the cabin. Please remember this when shopping.
  • Effective Date: From 00:00 on March 1, 2007

Restrictions on carrying duty free items on board

  • Liquid, gum, and gel products you picked up from duty free shops in the city and the airport shall be in following conditions when you are going through the departure formalities;
    • - When packed in a transparent seal bag (Tamper-evident bag) produced by a duty free shop, you can bring it into cabin.
    • - If the receipt given at the time of purchase at the duty free shop is attached to or is in the transparent seal bag, you can bring it into cabin.
    • - If the transparent seal bag is damaged or shows a trace of opening before boarding the plane for final destination (arrival) it is prohibited in the cabin. All of the above conditions should be satisfied.

  • When Stopping over Another Country
  • Liquid and gel products purchased in the stopover / destination may be restricted in the cabin depending on the cabin baggage rules. Please check at the time of purchase. However, moderate medicines can be brought into cabin. If you are traveling with a baby, you can bring your baby's food.
  • Please contact your airline about purchasing products at duty free shops in the stopover country.
  • When Leaving for US and Australia After purchasing,
  • you can go to the airport delivery point, sign the voucher to confirm, and pick up your purchases and take it at the boarding gate after checking.
  • <Object>
    • 1. When traveling directly to Australia and US territory (Guam, Saipan, Honolulu, Virgin Islands, and so on) on with direct flights, you can bring liquid products.
    • 2. However, if you are going to the USA on Korea Air (KE001), USA Delta Air Lines (DL), United Airlines (UA) it is prohibited to bring liquid and gel products. (There is no limit if the final destination is Korea.)

  • ・ When returning to Korea in the future, please make sure that you check in all products before boarding.
  • ・ Arrive at the airport 3 hours before departure, as there may be a delay due to security check.
  • ・ Customers who need to transfer to a domestic flight after arriving at their destination country by international flight must contact the airline in advance to inquire about the terms applied to bringing duty-free goods before purchasing.

Note when purchasing duty free items

  • Purchase and exemption limit
    - There is no purchase limit for foreigners leaving Korea.
  • Bringing duty-free items to Korea
    - When entering Korea, if you exceed the allowable duty-free limit of travel, you must pay the tax after voluntarily declaring to customs.
    - If not declared voluntarily, additional tax may be levied or subject to penalties under the customs law.
    - When entering Korea by carrying duty-free items, the total amount of duty-free purchase is up to $ 600.
  • Exchange/refund
    - You can request an exchange refund via international mail directly from overseas. If you enter Korea with more than $ 600 of duty-free goods, you will be entitled to an exchange refund only by declaring your goods at the customs office.
  • Guides on the tax amount
    - When the goods are imported exceeding the exemption range, the estimated tax amount can be checked through "Customs tax website" (www.customs.go.kr) with "Estimation of estimated tax amount".
